Why I CrossFit

May 30, 2013 by Pamela M. Kramer 2 Comments

I can keep you in the loop with great tips and laughs straight to your inbox with my monthly newsletter. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Got questions? I might have an answer! Leave it in the comments.

There is a lot of focus on fitness and health for me because if I keep it in the forefront of my mind then that puts me at the top of my own to do list. It’s survival in the most basic form. When you are on a plane and the flight attendants are showing you the proper mask procedure you have to help yourself first before you can help others. That is exactly how I try to view fitness in my life as a busy mom.

That thought process doesn’t always win though. Let’s be realistic. I’m not perfect. I can get a routine going and then something happens and it becomes difficult for me to get started again. There isn’t a reader or fitness friend that hasn’t had that story.

Why I CrossFit by @PamelaMKramer

It’s what you do after, the next day, the next week or whenever it is that you are able to get back on track. It’s making the decision to get back on track after you acknowledge that you are off.  Three weeks had passed since I was in a gym. One thing after another happened and pretty soon I found myself living “Murphy’s Law!”

All it took was a friend to call me out to come and play and I was back in the Crossfit gym. I had time constraints, a meeting I had to be present for at a specific time, a kid in tow and one that had to be picked up shortly after. I’m always on a time crunch. It’s no secret that my coach is very far from me now. Some days it takes a friend’s wisdom to put everything in perspective, like Jack for instance.

Tell me you can’t relate with what Jack said! That put everything into perspective for me. He’s right and I need to make that time. When I do, it makes me a better everything to everyone else. Most importantly it’s good for me!

While working on a few things I ran across a post written by my coach titled “Be Present.” It hit me like a ton of bricks and resounded with clarity. Yes! that’s it! This is why I CrossFit to be present in that moment. Who cares if the work out of the day is 11 minutes or 30 minutes it doesn’t matter. It’s that moment of time when that is the only thing that is required of me.

It’s up to me to get there!
It’s up to me to do the work!
It’s up to me to dig deep!
It’s up to me to support others!

You see that guy in the black on the wall? His name is Johnny. He was amazing on this day. He’s new to Crossfit and after nearly three years I have gotten pretty good at spotting the new folks. On this day, Johnny was inspiring. Look at him crawling up that wall and holding it right along side Jack.

Today I want to let you know that it’s ok to take that time for yourself. Take it! Use it! Feel good about it. Don’t apologize for doing something good for your body and your sanity. Thank you Jack and all my other fit friends that call me to come out and play. It’s not always easy to stay in the routine but with good friends like these they always help me find my way back. All I can do to show my appreciation is keep showing up and giving my full support to others.

Thanks Coach. Thanks for getting inside our heads and putting it out there to help explain it to others (read the full “Be Present” post here). This is why we love it and why we keep coming back for more. If you are off track I hope this inspires you to get back to work, on you. You don’t have to do Crossfit either, I’m supportive of whatever movement makes you feel good about you. Crossfit just happens to do that for me. If you have been moved or inspired please use those share buttons and help me spread the word to take care of yourself.

Great points! I love that you also charge yourself to support others, not just yourself. It is so true that we need to keep fitness at the forefront of our minds and pick it back up when we drop the ball.
