In a world full of computer games and hand held devices it’s great to see my kids kicking it old school with a “board” game of chess. Our oldest son taught his little brother how to play months ago. Now he’s in the chess club at his school. He and his friends play at lunch and have after school tournaments, it’s crazy! What the game of chess has done for him is to help him build strong strategy skills.
Today he is in the process of teaching his little sister how to play. It might take her a little bit longer to pick up on the moves of each piece. As a parent it makes me proud to see that he’s trying to teach. She might be a force to be reckoned with as she gets older. Her look of concentration is priceless.
He taught me a great tip by changing the name of the “Queen” to “Princess” and in little girl world that is a bid deal! She was very eager to learn the moves of a princess. These are the games children play. This brings me to you my readers…
