Today our pastor discussed Timothy 4:6-10 which talks about training yourself in Godliness. Training is all about practice. You have to work hard, work smart and be consistent. Take yourself to the point of discomfort. Make working hard a habit. We are staying with the athletic theme during this series. It’s my favorite because I can relate.
“Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” -Kevin Durant
How you practice determines how you perform. The act of repetition changes your brain and practice makes permanent or automatic. If you practice mediocre you perform mediocre. That train of thought really applies to so many aspects of life. Whether you are talking about your faith, training for a sport, being a good parent, it doesn’t matter because everything you do takes practice. We train ourselves through education. When we know better, we do better!
Questions to think about:
- What do you practice?
- Is your religion something you practice for 1-2 hours a week?
- How have you changed as you make different choices?
For me personally I lack self discipline when it comes to taking care of my body. I’m constantly training and practicing but stressing out and letting that junk food get the best of me is mediocre. What a waste of my time. There must be balance. That is something that I pray about daily. We are not designed to be chained to desks, computers and phones.
What do you think? Leave your thoughts.
