Today’s sermon is Putting God First: Naming our Idols from Exodus 20: 2-6. You can listen to the service in it’s entirety here Naming Our Idols.
Are you putting God first in living and giving? The shiny things still dazzle us and lure us in. We become like what we worship. What is that you center your life around? What gives your life meaning and purpose?
A good reputation can become our downfall. Where do you spend your time, energy and money? What do you treasure?
God should be at the center while family, neighbors, work, church, school and interests should stem from that.
Everyone worships something:
All things were created for him by him. Nothing delivers or brings that satisfaction. When Jesus is at the center is that’s when we find ourselves.
An interesting crossover is part of Financial Peace University. If you want to know what is important to you look at your calendar to see where you spend most of your time. When you are gathering information for your budget what are the top three things that you spend the most money on? That is what you treasure the most.
These realities are always interesting to me because what you think and what you do may not actually align with each other.
For me I spend a lot of time online, blogging, fixing, engaging and the other part of my time is spent working out. I’m trying to find that balance between using my brain and taking care of my health. My calendar is mostly filled with kids events, activities and what ever we are doing as a family. When I look at how are money is spent our high costs are our mortgage, groceries and gas for vehicles.
