Manual Mode Photography {No Filter}

May 15, 2013 by Pamela M. Kramer 21 Comments

I can keep you in the loop with great tips and laughs straight to your inbox with my monthly newsletter. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Got questions? I might have an answer! Leave it in the comments.

My manual mode photography class is over I’m sad to report. The week before it ended we were working on capturing the detail of this flower outside. That one is my favorite because of the detail up close and the out of focus background. My last take home assignment was to catch the sunset. There was a perfect unobstructed view from the church parking lot. For some reason I chose to come home instead of staying.

What a shame because there were roofs and fences all around me. To get a better view I got in the car and drove until there was clear spot. It’s the bottom left image. I’m not sure if it is right because the day we were suppose to share photos fell on the same day my son had a piano recital. That was the official last day of my class. It’s impossible to be in two places at once. Afterward I spent the weekend fooling around. There were some great captures in manual mode but the game pieces and that portion of her face are my favorites. I’m trying to get better on the front end so that there is less photo editing afterward. Each of these shots are in manual mode without any filters or editing. I’m excited to learn more. Have you seen the manual mode cheat sheets?

These are handy tools but they don’t take the place of good old fashioned practice.

Very cool and unique collage of photos!

    • PamelaMKramer

Thank you Chavonne! Some weeks it’s really hard to narrow it down to just one photo. You know? Thanks for stopping and taking the time to leave a comment.

  • Shala Howell

Lovely pictures. I adore closeups of flowers and children’s faces, although oddly in this set the collage of chess pieces, marbles and buttons that’s catching my eye. Happy WW!

    • PamelaMKramer

Thank you! I know the game pieces caught my eye too. I was surprised. They are rather larger in original size. I think over 2K+ pixels and it looks really cool. The colors just pop off the page.

Great photos, good luck with the manual mode – I find it very challenging! And thanks very much for the cheat sheets, very timely as I’ve just started a short photography course too!

Those are some great shots πŸ™‚ I’ve just recently playing around with my old camera’s manual mode too. So much more to learn.

  • Chasing Joy (Arlett)

Very nice pictures. Sounds like you got a lot out of the class.

    • PamelaMKramer

Thank you! I get a lot out of the class. The last time I took it I had a Canon point and shoot. This is a lot better! It’s a Nikon.

  • Dude Mom

Looks like you learned a lot! Keep it up!

    • PamelaMKramer

I did. I think it takes a lot of practice. What do you think? I know you take a LOT of photos. Is it the camera or the skills?

  • Camille Griffiths

Great pics! Sounds like it was a neat class. Makes me want to take a photography class too.

    • PamelaMKramer

Oh thank you Camille! It was a neat class. It’s amazing what you can pick up when you dedicate one hour a week! lol
