Import Your Google Reader to BlogLovin in 3 Clicks

If you are a Google Reader user then you know that this handy tool is going to expire within a few short months. Many users are scrambling for alternatives. Bloglovin provides this similar service allowing you to organize and categorize sites that you follow. I have been a member of bloglovin for a while now and have been adding to it little by little.

Follow on Bloglovin

I am also a Google Reader user but wasn’t sure what to do with all of the blogs that I was already following. All I needed to do was import them to my Bloglovin account in three easy clicks! Yes it’s really that simple.

When I began this import I was already logged into my gmail account which is connected to Google Reader. I opened my bloglovin account in a separate tab in my browser and opened my settings. Under setting look for the import blogs button in the Other section as you see below.  Here is the import shown in 3 clicks!

Google Reader to bloglovin’ in 3 clicks!

The image below is to show you what the import looks like when it’s complete. There are 252 blogs to import and 220 of them went into the blogger-following folder that was created by the import.

Because the number of of blogs that were imported had a lower number in the folder I went back to check in Google Reader to see if they all made it to bloglovin. The blogs that were still live were imported. Many of the bloggers that I had been following have left blogging. Cheaper than Therapy was authored by The Mom Jen and when I checked the import it found that she changed the name of her blog to Musings of The Mom Jen! How handy is that?  What an easy solution.

Nice write up. Thanks for the clear directions. Visiting from the SITs Saturday Link Up.

    • PamelaMKramer

Thank you Lydia! I like clear directions and quickly too so I hope that others will find it useful too. Love me some SITs! I need to go find your link. :)

I love my igoogle page and am unsure what alternative I use. It was my reader and my favorite news sites and my to do list and the weather all in one spot when I check the internet. I don’t have a tablet or a smart phone. Any ideas about an alternative for iGoogle. Blog Lovin’ sounds great but it won’t solve most of my problems.

    • PamelaMKramer

Laura – No you are right it won’t. I have never used a start page. Everything I want is in my tool bar. I drag my morning info – email, twitter, facebook, news etc. into my tool bar and work from that. You can customize your tool bar to add your favorites. Does this help at all?

I’m glad you use Bloglovin! I’ve been trying to tell others about Bloglovin…but they seem to think of it as another community that they have to build…it’s just a reader! Thanks for sharing, hopefully you inspired other to move before they lose all their favorite blogs!

    • pamelamkramer

Yes it’s only a reader. I hope we find each other there so we can keep up with each other. :)

Stopping by from SITS! Luckily i started blogging when this transition was beginning to happen so I am already on the Bloglovin’ train! Enjoying your blog!

    • pamelamkramer

Nicely done! I’ve been out here for years. There have been so many transitions over the years. It’s amazing! You started at a very good time. There are a lot of tough lessons learned already out there. lol – I feel like the Queen of the Don’t Do That! Do This. lol

I’ve been looking for an alternative and have heard alot of good things about bloglovin. I didn’t realize it was so easy to make the switch!

    • pamelamkramer

Right? I couldn’t believe it either. I know we bloggers don’t have a lot of time so if I can create something that benefits us all quick and easy I’m all for it! Thank you for taking the time to check it out. If you are there let me know so I can follow you back!

  • Ally C-ell

Wonderful! I really appreciate when I accidentally come across a solution to a problem I didn’t even know I have! I’mm off to bloglovin now and hope to find you in there as well
