Looks like my behavioral science background is kicking in today. We were at an important event for our eldest son and The Princess was full of emotions. You know the kind where your little person is displaying the behavior of a roller coaster? One minute they are happy and the next they are sad and any little thing can trigger it? Especially when they are tired!
A parent has to be ready to pull out their best bag of tricks to keep them calm because you are out in public. That’s the perfect time for kids to test their boundaries as well as yours!
Can you see the transitions of the Id, Ego and Superego?
She was mad because she didn’t want to sit in that chair. She wanted to sit in a different chair. It goes something like this….
Id: I want what I want, and I want it now! In this case she wants to sit in the other (read that word in your whiny voice) chair.
Ego: The reality of the situation is kicking in. She has to sit and be quiet because we are in the front row! Lots of families are trying to hear and her father is sitting behind her and I’m right beside her. Looks like reality doesn’t set in until the fourth photo.
Superego: Here comes the superego controlling the id. She knows she just needs to do the right thing so she laughs it off in the fifth and final photo.
What do you think? Do you like that break down of Freud?
Another scenario is that she was very angry and as she watched me taking pictures of her she tried to hold on to that face of anger as long as she could. As you can see she couldn’t stay mad. She’s really a giggly girl at heart.
