Facebook Rules, Can You Keep Up?

Part of my behind the scenes work is marketing campaigns. While working on a photo contest the goal was to upload photos to a Fan Page wall and based on the number of likes a winner would be chosen. Facebook rules change frequently. There was a time when you could not have people “Like” your Fan Page as part of a contest. Now, you can’t use any of their features without paying for a third party app. If you don’t use the app then you are in violation of their terms and conditions and your page could be terminated.

Luckily at tonight’s Houston Bloggers meeting we had a nice presentation all about Facebook. As soon as I returned to my computer the research began and my app of choice was WooBox. It was very simple to set up. The rest of the evening was spent doing damage control and changing links and updating participants and voters. Sounds like fun doesn’t it?

Which brings me to you, my readers…

Hmmmm…I can not think of anything that I am really aware of. I am very conservative with how I use Facebook. After listening to others at conferences my main goal is to have interaction on my website, not Facebook. I am sure some of my giveaways may have been sketchy with the way I would link to them on my page, but it was promoting my post.

Agreed! I would much rather conduct everything from my site.

Uh -Oh. Did you take notes at the meeting? I had another blogger event…butttt I think I need to know all the new changes before I do another contest. Is it still “illegal” for people to like your page? what’s the third party app? Omg. I’m scared. Lol

You can’t make people “Like” to enter a contest. A 3rd party app is basically paying a company the use for the app to have legal contests on Facebook. There are notes from the meeting but none of that had to do with contests. http://www.houstonbloggers.com/facebook-insights-for-beginners/

Excellent! Thank you for stopping by. I’ll look you up.

I agree with you on that one. You could get your page terminated not even knowing why it happened. I also think people even have problems keeping up with constant changes and upgrades we are constantly seeing.

Can you imagine people using an application that changes so often in a working environment of a large organization? And that’s without proper user manuals and training. I think it’s hard to imagine…
In my opinion this just shows how much time we are willing to invest if we find something fun and useful.

You are welcome to check out a report from a recent trip to Rome at my blog. Have fun and keep blogging!

Thanks for your input Marko. However, I’m concerned why you came to this post? It makes me think I used a wrong link some where.

Something really doesn’t seem right… I was clicking around your page(s) and this comment is referring to one of the articles about Facebook. Oh well, as long as you got the message all is good. 😉
