It was Christmas Eve and my husband and I were preparing for the big day. My grandmother had been in the hospital and we were just trying to get through the evening and get to sleep. It was cold outside and as I passed by our front door there was this terrible sounding cry. We have a pretty large window next to our front door and as I looked through it I could see this little kitten.
We soon found ourselves throwing out blankets and milk. We already have two dogs and they don’t normally play nice with cats. I’m not a cat person but this little kitty was obviously a stray. Long story short a neighbor of ours was doing the same thing, putting out a box with a blanket with food and water. It turns out someone dropped off a few kittens in the neighborhood and this kitty was the only one that made it.
Our children adopted this kitty and soon our daughter was head over heels in love with Princess Penelope. However, after a trip to the vet we soon found out that she was really in love with Prince Jake. She literally cried when she learned the news. She had her heart set on a girl but after seeing our new kitty she was back in love again and it was ok that he was a boy.
I have been taking Jake with us for kid pick up and drop off and he loves it. I’m buying him collars, name tags and LOTS of toys! Now I wonder, “did that really just happen to me?” I’m not really a cat person, or maybe I am! Our dogs have learned to live with Jake now and they play well together. Thank goodness! They had me on pins and needles thinking that Jake was going to be a dog treat.
He’s part of our family now and we have another mouth to feed and more vet bills but that purring is pretty amazing. I’m not sure why it’s so soothing but it really is and I can’t help but like it.
Did I mention I’m not really a cat person? What about you? Have you been amazed by any cats? Let me know in the comments.
