Why should you eat at home? My first few days testing out the six second video platform Vine there was a user who followed me and he played pranks on his coworkers at a Burger King. Consider this also as a cautionary tale of what NOT to do on social media. It seemed somewhat harmless at first but then he posted a video of himself licking the bun. Vine is only six seconds so who really knows what happened to that burger. He has since removed that video but the rest of the videos remain. It’s not clear from his account if he is still employed there.
Today my newsletter from Mashable started with FedEx responding to the viral video of an employee throwing packages. That article had one public relations debacle after another. What is going on America? I bring you a quick summary of infamous food chain shenanigans.
6 Reasons to eat at home!
1.) You won’t have anyone licking your buns like the Burger King employee above.
2.) You can change your own recipes without the use of “ammonium hydroxide.” The Jamie Oliver article reads ““Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.” McDonald’s is changing it’s recipe. Have you seen the chicken McNugget process? I’m sure they have changed that recipe too, right?
3.) If you are licking your food for a photo contest, well, it’s your food. Apparently “licking” is a popular method among fast food employees. Another Mashable headline reads, Taco Bell employee who licked Taco shells gets fired. “In the statement, Taco Bell explained that the photo was for an “internal contest in which company and franchise employees could submit for approval photos of themselves enjoying their first bite of “a new product.” Yep, this guy is really enjoying those tacos with his tongue.
4.) You know where you store your food! Above is a screen shot of video footage from an employee at Golden Corral. This is meat that was left by a dumpster. It originally started on Reddit and made it’s way to Mashable “Reddit Serves Up a PR Crisis to Golden Corral.”
5.) Most likely you aren’t sticking your food up your nose. The infamous Domino’s video prank. “Domino’s employee in Conover, N.C., prepared sandwiches for delivery while putting cheese up his nose, nasal mucus on the sandwiches, and violating other health-code standards while a fellow employee provided narration.” That was all the way back in 2009. I’m sure no one does that any more, right?
6.) You don’t stand on your food. Another Burger King employee grosses us out! From Mashable “4Chan Outs Burger King Employee Who Put His Feet in Lettuce.” Yum!
Gordon Ramsey is making a living off of restaurants that have lost their way. Kitchen Nightmares any one?
I don’t know about you but cooking at home is my first choice but if I’m in a pinch it’s Chick-Fil-A all the way baby! If you happen to fall upon employees messing with the food, let me know so I can go cry some where.
Will this stop you from eating fast food? Most likely not because these are local incidents but hey, think about it next time and just go to the grocery store. At least there you can get packaged, processed and sprayed for pesticides produce and lets not forget about GMOs and Gluten. What’s happening to our food?
Think for a moment how much more we will find in years to come. If every phone comes with cameras and video capability, what will we see from more employees in the future? One thing is for sure in the land of social media options it will spread quickly for sure!
